Xiaomi announced the first Bluetooth tracker, and while the Xiaomi brand features a more elongated design than… Apple Airtagallowing you to use it in more places right out of the box. At one end of the tracker you’ll find a built-in metal ring that can be attached to a keyring or attached to a carabiner without the need for an additional bag.
The Xiaomi brand is compatible with both tracking networks and Apple’s Find My and Google’s Find Hub mobile apps, but not at the same time. You’ll need to choose one or the other during setup. Like Apple’s AirTag, the Xiaomi Tag is powered by a replaceable CR2032 coin cell battery good for up to a year of use, and features an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance, so it can survive a short while. There are also NFC capabilities that others can use to upload your contact details if a lost device is found with the tag attached.
One big difference is that unlike Apple’s AirTags, Xiaomi’s one lacks an ultra-wideband (UWB) function for pinpointing its precise location. You’ll instead have to rely on audio alerts to locate it once you’re nearby. If that’s not a deal-breaker, the Xiaomi brand will be a cheaper alternative to Apple’s AirTags, as they’ll retail for £12.99 (about $18) each, or £44.99 (about $61) for a pack of four. One second generation The price of the AirTag is $29or $99 for four people.
