The world’s first modular carpet-washing robot vacuum may come from a little-known startup I saw at CES

Robotic vacuums They can vacuum carpets, and many can also mop hard floors. But no robot vacuum cleaner is capable of cleaning wet carpets the way we do Carpet cleaner This is due to the complexities of needing specialized brushes and cleaning solutions.

the R2 for robota product from a startup, attempts to solve this problem, and the solution is remarkably straightforward in its simplicity. Simply replace the entire front of the robot vacuum with a new modular attachment.

The units slide into place mechanically. To remove them, just press the clips to separate them.

I watched Robotin R2 on Consumer Electronics Show 2026 I succeeded in washing a small strip of carpet. I even touched the panel to check. The company said that the units are currently in the trial production stage after a Successful Kickstarter campaign. Early backers are expected to receive their units between March and April 2026. Mass production of the general consumer version is expected to take place between April and June 2026.

The Robotin R2 has been disconnected from its carpet cleaning unit. You can insert a dry cleaning unit if you want to vacuum instead.

The robot consists of a basic robot unit and two units: a deep vacuum unit for regular suction on different floor types, and a carpet washing and drying unit specifically for cleaning carpets.

The base station is also huge, featuring an auto-emptying trash can, a 2.4-gallon clean water tank and a 1.6-gallon dirty water tank that also recycles water. The entire unit measures 31.73 inches high, 18.46 inches wide, and 25.33 inches long. This makes it as big and bulky as a portable air conditioner, so it will take up a lot of space and may not be practical in a smaller apartment.

The R2 has a huge base station containing two clean water tanks, a dirty water tank, and a large litter box. It takes up a lot of space.

Replacing one unit with another seemed relatively simple. I watched one of the employees in the booth do this by just taking one in and out. I was also able to try it myself and found it relatively easy to use.

The carpet washing section uses a mixture of water and cleaning solution; However, for demonstration purposes, they were using water only, as I was able to confirm by touching it that it was indeed wet. It can clean a carpet up to 400 square feet in about an hour using water and suction.

The base station does most of the maintenance hands-free, but I can’t really imagine how big it is in person.

Jameson Chu, partner and vice president of product, informed me that it should take about 60 minutes to clean the space and about two hours for it to dry, which isn’t bad considering how long it can take to shampoo carpets and then wait for them to dry.

Below the R2 there is a carpet cleaning brush and a section that circulates dry air to dry the carpets after cleaning.

After washing, the drying process begins, which involves circulating hot air that is heated to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. There are humidity sensors to monitor humidity levels and the drying process. Robotin says it has dozens of sensors and an AI navigation system for cleaning and mapping, along with an app. For regular mopping of hard floors, it has hot water mopping up to 140°F and hot air drying.

It takes R2 1 hour to wash the carpet and about 2 hours to dry.

The company says that this process is done largely without manual intervention. After seeing it in action, I can confirm that at least it works. He was able to successfully navigate the narrow square of carpet on the table without falling off the edge.

The R2 supports mapping, obstacle avoidance, and all the key features you need from a robot vacuum.

It supports app control and features mapping, including slope detection, obstacle avoidance, and lidar navigation. It can also climb thresholds of up to 2cm, which is an increasingly standard feature these days and not particularly impressive next to robot vacuums like the Dreame

However, as a vacuum cleaner it looks fairly capable on paper, with 115W of suction and an anti-tangle brush. The docking station features a 2-liter trash can, which should allow you to go for up to two months without having to empty it.

Zhou also told me that in the future, Robotin plans to offer additional modules, including a robot arm module that resembles a robot arm module. Roborock Saros Z70allowing it to pick up items found in your home. Presumably, additional attachments can be added, and perhaps even performance upgrades.

This is a unique robot vacuum and I’m definitely looking forward to trying it out in the future.
