CES this year It was strange. The conference is usually dominated by expensive futuristic TVs and expensive futuristic cars, but those weren’t the things that dominated CES 2026. Instead, Las Vegas was filled with new ideas for old gadgets, and showed us a wealth of really cool hardware just waiting for software to catch up.
on This episode of vertcastrecorded live at the Brooklyn Bowl in Vegas, David and Nilay talk through some of the big stories from this year’s show. (Thanks to everyone who came to see us, and stopped by afterward for drinks and bowling – we had fun hanging out with you all!) We talk about robots that can’t seem to stand, why every company suddenly seems to be making everything, the resurgence of weird ideas about computers, battery life, and much more.
The focus at CES is always on individual products, and there is Lots of interesting ones This year, from Lego smart brick to He clicks on the communicator to Rows on Rows to Robot vacuums We saw it in the convention center. Some things will ship and will be great; Some won’t. (We have a game in this episode about this, too.) But each year, if you look beyond the gadgets themselves, you can start to get an idea of what the tech industry is interested in – and how our lives might change in the coming year. It’s still early days, with 2026 expected to be the year yearBut we have some ideas already.
