The US Department of Energy and twenty AI laboratories and companies this week Announce A cooperation aimed at enhancing the use of artificial intelligence in scientific research.

“The challenges facing our world — from energy to disease to security — require unprecedented scientific innovation,” Pushmeet Kohli and Tom Lu of Google DeepMind wrote in an article. “We take very seriously that this is the new scientific tool of our time,” he said. “Just as astronomy was revolutionized with telescopes…I think AI, quantum and (high-performance computing) systems are the new telescopes of our time.”
