As the name “Midi” suggests, this is a medium-sized crossword puzzle. While a Mini Crossword usually has 5 cross clues and only 5 down clues, a Midi is usually a 9 x 9 puzzle, sometimes as long as 11 x 11.
“If you feel like Mini isn’t enough but Daily is too much, this will be the perfect puzzle for you,” Livengood said.
Each medium sized crossword has a theme that hints at the themes of the clues and answers. Unlike other puzzles, Livengood says Medi can sometimes have two-letter words and repeated answers.
I tried the midi crossword
I tried Wednesday’s Midi Crossword and solved it in just over 3 minutes. That’s a lot more time than I spend on a mini-crossword, but much faster than the original New York Times crossword puzzle takes.
I thought most of the clues were pretty simple, and the few difficult ones filled in once I moved from the other side to the bottom.
If you’re a New York Times Games subscriber, this is a great addition to your daily puzzle collection. It tests your brain a little more than the Mini, but you can also solve the problem while watching TV or waiting for someone to answer you.
