Two other nuclear companies received major grants from the Trump administration.

The Tennessee Valley Authority and Holtec will do this They each get $400 million From the Department of Energy to build small modular reactors based on existing nuclear fission technology.

TVA will build a 300-megawatt GE Vernova Hitachi reactor in Tennessee, while Holtec will build two of its 300-megawatt reactors in Michigan.

Technology companies have Improved to nuclear power In recent years as their demand for electricity has grown alongside their ambitions in artificial intelligence.

The reactors to be built are Generation III+ designs, which are improvements to existing designs that have been in use for decades. By reducing them to “micro-modular” size, we hope that costs will decrease as parts are mass-produced and engineering and construction crews become more familiar with building them.

So far, however, Only two The small modular reactors are now operational, according to the World Nuclear Association.
