Synology is preparing to launch new restrictions on third -party hard drives in the storage attached to its future network (NAS) later this year, the company Assure Art Technica. Changes may make it difficult to use external drives in Synology devices for typical use, such as home computers ’support or local media servers. The good news is that if you already have Synology Nas, the company says that the change will not affect you.
Synology says in the European Union press release “From the Plus series models released in 2025”, the SYNOLOGY tablets only and those that were relied on the company to meet its specifications “will provide a full range of features and support.” according to ArsSYNOLOGY plans to update their compatibility lists to reflect the third party engines.
The new restrictions mean that without autoccroist engines, you may not be able to do things like storing billiards between tablets or taking advantage of the driving life analysis offered by the company’s program. The change does not apply to Synology J-Value Class, and will not affect the consumer Synology Plus devices that were released in 2024 and before. This will not affect the hard drives that are deported to this year’s devices from the current NAS systems, according to the press statement of Synology.
For the reason for making this change, he told a spokesman for Synology Ars“The intense internal test showed that the disk engines that follow the strict verification process when associated with Synology systems are at risk of failure of the drive and continuous compatibility issues.” The company says similar things in its press statement, and she wrote that the restrictions “will reduce compatibility problems and increase the reliability and performance of the system.” Synology did not respond immediately freedomRequest to comment.
Likes such is annoying. To Synology, provides it in a less terrible way than something like the printer company Prevent the third party ink with update the program. But this does not fit the fact that future NAS owners will have less options – and therefore there are less opportunities to save money – when it comes to buying drives to adhere to them.
