If you don’t need the latest technology, you can save a lot by getting the latest generation WH-1000XM5 In black, which is $250 ($150 off) at Amazon. That’s one of the lowest prices we’ve seen for an older model, and represents a great deal of our favorite pair of noise-canceling headphones until the newer XM6 arrives in May.
Although it’s a few years old, the Sony XM5 still has a lot to offer, such as excellent noise cancellation, detail-rich sound, and improved voice call quality thanks to the inclusion of eight microphones. They’re also comfortable to wear for long periods, with wider earpads that provide just the right amount of cushion. Since the XM5s are mostly made of plastic – with some metal here and there – they are relatively lightweight at 250 grams.
However, if you travel a lot, the XM5’s design may be seen as a downgrade compared to the older WH-1000XM4 and newer XM6. This is because the headphones cannot be folded. Instead, the earcups just turn on to lay the headphones flat, so they’re not easy to pack when they’re in their case. However, if you plan to use the XM5 primarily at home, this is somewhat less of an issue, but it is worth keeping in mind.
Sony still XM5 enhanced with new featuressuch as voice sharing and Google’s Gemini Live conversational AI assistant. So, not only will you get great noise-cancelling headphones for $149 off, you’ll also get new features that improve the experience compared to when they first launched. This is a win-win.
