Sony and TCL said Tuesday that they are Entering into a joint project That would turn Sony’s home entertainment and TV audio business into a new company, in which TCL would have a 51% controlling stake.
But it’s not the end for Sony or the flagship Bravia TVs that celebrated their day 20th anniversary last year. The partnership will retain these brands when it goes into effect, with a target date of April 2027.

While Sony has been a home theater mainstay for decades, TCL has quickly transformed itself from a budget brand known for its Roku-included smart TVs into a more premium range that competes favorably with major TV makers like Samsung and LG. In CNET’s tests, TCL performed well, especially in… LCD TV category.
At CES 2026, TCL unveiled a new screen, X11La giant LCD screen that includes a Super Quantum Dot layer that the company says adds better color and brightness.
In their announcement, the two companies said the new venture will build on “Sony’s high-quality picture and audio technology cultivated over the years, brand equity and operational expertise including supply chain management, while leveraging TCL’s advanced display technology, advantages of global scale, industrial footprint, overall cost efficiency, and vertical supply chain strength.”
Sony and TCL said they hope to reach a final agreement by the end of March. The start-up of the new company will also depend on clearing contractual and regulatory hurdles.
