While my esteemed colleagues at CNET were in San Francisco for the release Samsung Galaxy S26 Series, I was in Barcelona before that Mobile World Congress 2026And see the sights and look at the luxury cars roaming the streets of the Spanish city.
Once my colleagues arrived with the Galaxy S26, I found a new use for one of its coolest features: shooting videos of expensive cars in Europe.
It is not uncommon for a Porsche or Maserati to be roaming the streets of Barcelona’s upscale neighborhoods. To capture it on video, I tried out the Galaxy S26’s new horizontal lock, which is a very forgiving image stabilization mode. As my colleague Abrar Al-Hiti noticed in her first shotWith the camera feature turned on, you can tilt the phone as much as you want while keeping the horizon constant.
First, I reviewed CNET’s hands-on sessions with the new mode. I rotated the phone 90 degrees in one direction and flipped it 180 degrees in the other direction. Horizontal Lock works exactly as advertised, showing smooth shots that you’d think were taken with a very steady phone.
This was a great feature to try out on the streets of Barcelona, as I turned my wobbly arm into a steady hand behind the camera as I tracked flashy cars speeding down the Passeig de Gracia and Carrer d’Arago in the Quadrat d’Or.
Using Horizontal Lock to straighten my footage, I can send videos to my friends back home with undeniable proof that I’ve seen some beautiful cars — like the Porsche Carrera GTS pictured above (a 904 from circa 1964, if my Google skills are to be believed).
The Galaxy S26’s horizontal lock is a perfect helper if you’re shooting quickly, or agile subjects move unexpectedly. This feature can also rescue videos from unusable shaky footage, which is an obvious advantage when recording during emergencies, disasters, or in war zones.
And for everyday Galaxy S26 owners, horizontal locking makes it easier to watch casual videos, ensuring they eventually show up. Good photography subreddits instead of Bad.
