Pokopia made me look at the high-tech future of Pokémon in a whole new way

Pokemon Bucopia Features, of all things, a 3D printer. I wasn’t sure why this surprised me so much, given almost all the other high-tech equipment Pokemon game. But I didn’t expect to find, inside the dilapidated Pokemon Center that I had worked so hard to restore, a kind of machine I’d never seen before.

until PoppyI haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about technology in Pokemon world. I was Pokemon-It’s been grinding it out for so long that I took all of its sci-fi tech for granted. Sure, there are magic computers that can store living things digitally, and that’s always been the case. Obviously fossils can be revived and clearly Sometimes Pokemon can travel through time. These are just facts. The power of science is amazing.

Poppy various. In this world, humans have long since disappeared, and Pokémon are slowly repopulating the ruins left in their wake. Here, the technology is not guaranteed to work. Climate change has led to widespread environmental disasters, and as a result, Pokemon have been stored securely in computers for some time. But a collectible journal entry reveals that the PC’s storage system can’t keep running without regular maintenance, and that seems to explain what’s happening: the Pokémon are now appearing because the storage system has finally failed. This fallibility made me care more about existing technology Poppy – And see the world of high technology Pokemon In a new light.

There is still a lot of science fiction and fantasy Poppyin more than one way. (Least of all: the computer outside the dilapidated Pokemon Center, which is not intended to store Pokemon but to track restoration efforts in the surrounding area, is somehow still working.) But the regular, real-life things you can find all over the world — lamps, televisions, vending machines, arcade cabinets — often need electricity to function, more than Electric-type Pokemon can supply on their own. This means building some significant energy infrastructure; magic Pokemon Technology can only get you so far.

You can’t take these types of devices for granted Poppy Because using it requires real effort. As you rebuild the world, you’ll create homes for your Pokémon to live in. Sometimes this just means planting a flower bed, but in many cases, you have to acquire “old” human technology and electrify it in order to create a suitable habitat for your Pokémon. You may need to power up a vending machine to fulfill a Pokemon’s request, or turn on the lights in their house so they don’t sit sadly in the dark. To do this, you have to set up enough power poles and generators to power all the electronic devices on your network – and that takes time, resources, and planning.

What happened to humans is best left untouched, but suffice it to say it’s largely science fiction. In this way, some things about Poppy You feel like you are in a distant, apocalyptic future, and then you turn around and build an ordinary windmill to generate electricity. the PokemonThere are also definite fantasy elements, but they exist alongside traditional and even largely outdated techniques. There’s a new version of Rotom – a Pokemon that can operate devices to change its appearance – who has a stereo and works as a DJ, but you’ll have to find physical CDs So DJ Rotom can play music for you.

The division between ordinary and future technology makes Poppy Feel stuck outside of time. How long has it been since humans disappeared? How much time has passed since the events of the main game series? Why, in this world where you can put living things into a computer, do we use CDs to play music?

The 3D printer falls between science fiction technology and ordinary everyday gaming devices. It’s in its own category: not quite contemporary, not a distant evolution of real-life technology, but something almost within reach. Take out the Pokédex Camera, toggle the reference photo settings, and take a photo of any object; Now you can use that photo and some rare materials to 3D print a version of it. It’s more advanced than in real life, but getting there doesn’t require much imagination.

Pokemon The gadgets mirrored real-life gadgets from back when the series was, but were primarily handheld devices (and sometimes wearables) that fulfilled menu functions and provided information. The original Pokédex is basically a PDA from the 1990s that contains a Pokémon database; gold and silverThe Pokégear’s Pokégear is a type of foldable phone that can take calls and access the radio; diamond and PearlThe Pokétch is an early smartwatch that had a lot of simple apps, including a calculator for some reason. “Last matches” Rotom phonestoo, are pretty much just real smartphones, although they do have Pokemon that can provide some unique features.

These are the types of devices I expect Pokemonalong with the matter-of-fact “it’s possible because Pokemon can do it” and real speculative fiction stuff. I wasn’t expecting something quite modern, but not like a 3D printer.

It is possible that at some point during the last 30 years there was a piece of… Pokemon Technology is the same way. I know a lot about him PokemonBut I’m not an encyclopedia. While advanced technology has always been a part of Pokemonand it wasn’t until I discovered the 3D printer that I was able to put everything together, and then everything related to it PoppyTechnology was clicked. In the rough timeline in my head, I laid out the 3D printer Poppy A few years after the advent of CDs, it may not have been that humans had inexplicably advanced in everything except music distribution, but that there were some technologies that did not survive the climate catastrophe. When there’s no Internet left to stream music, CDs become very important again.

High-tech computers and 3D printing materials are precious commodities Poppyas well as CDs and power lines. They are all part of rebuilding the world, because a world Pokemon I have always relied on a mixture of the everyday and the fictional. I didn’t realize it until this world was moved to the buttons and showed me something I’d never seen before.
