Nintendo is moving further away from the original Switch console, with the company now planning to devote most of its attention to its successor. In a Financial results briefing “Going forward, we will shift our primary development focus to Nintendo Switch 2 and expand our business around this new platform,” Nintendo said on Wednesday.
The Switch won’t be discontinued right away, but the wheels are in motion now, and we’ll likely start seeing fewer games released for the older platform. For now, Nintendo says it will continue to sell Switch hardware “taking consumer demand and the business environment into account”, and that several major Switch titles are still in the works from October onwards.
more than 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles They’ve been sold out since its launch in June, and 84 percent of them have been purchased by people who switched from the original Switch, according to Nintendo. That’s just a small portion of the Switch’s 154.01 million lifetime sales, but Nintendo says it’s seeing a uniform transition to the new platform.
