The new Whirlpool top-loading washing machine features a delicate basket that sits in the middle of your washer, protecting sweaters and other delicate items from the harsh beating of a standard load of laundry. I have seen the device that will be released soon in KBIS in Orlando. A few weeks ago, I had ruined one of my favorite jackets by washing it in the washing machine, so I liked this feature. The idea is simple and very clever, but this appears to be the first washing machine to incorporate it.

Although we haven’t gotten to see the machine in action yet (it’s only on display), a Whirlpool representative told me that clothes placed in the center basket stay there throughout the cycle, thanks to its distinct water flow patterns.

The basket can be easily removed with a light squeeze of the handles, so you can take out delicate clothes and socks. You can also leave the basket out if it is not needed for a particular wash cycle.

Pricing was not available, but the washer is scheduled to launch at national retailers in September of this year.
