The 83rd Golden Globes Awards were a special evening for streaming platforms. Netflix led the pack with seven wins, while Apple TV and HBO Max each took three awards, and Hulu took home one.
Among Netflix’s highlights, the hit series “Adolescent” took home four awards, including best limited series. The show also took home awards for Outstanding Actor (Stephen Graham), Supporting Actor (Owen Cooper) and Supporting Actress (Erin Doherty) in a Miniseries. Netflix’s most-watched movie, “KPop Demon Hunters,” won Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song
Netflix’s sweep at the Golden Globes comes as the company prepares for its biggest moves in Hollywood: Acquisition of Warner Bros. The awards highlight Netflix’s growing dominance and may reassure investors that the company is ready to manage the legacy of a powerhouse like Warner Bros. These wins may be a strong signal that the merger could truly be a game-changer.
As for other streaming shows, Apple TV took home two awards for The Studio, one for Outstanding TV Series (Musical or Comedy) and one for Outstanding Actor in a TV Series, given to Seth Rogen. Rhea Seehorn also took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Television Drama for her performance in “Pluribus.”
HBO had a big hit with the medical drama The Pitt, which earned two Golden Globes, including one for actor Noah Wiley.
Hulu’s only win went to Michelle Williams, who took home the award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series for “Dying For Sex.” However, Hulu originals like “Only Murders in the Building,” “Paradise,” “Chad Powers” and “The Bear” did not turn their nominations into wins.
Meanwhile, Disney+ received 15 nominations, including for “Andor” and “Elio,” but did not pick up any wins this year.
