Netflix blocks streaming from your phone to your TV


Netflix It no longer supports sending shows and movies from Phones to TVs For most subscribers. Instead, people will need to use the official Netflix app for smart TV or connect devices directly to watch the streaming service on their TVs.

The broadcasting company has not yet commented on the reason for the change. However, on Netflix Help Center pageThe company appears to be encouraging people to use the built-in Netflix apps for their TVs and devices.

A Netflix representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Several sites It is reported Casting still works on older versions of the Netflix app and that some devices, such as older Chromecast models, may still appear under the cast button option. In our own tests, an LG TV that was previously available for streaming no longer has an option.

It’s not entirely clear when Netflix made this policy change. The first report of a casting ban appears to be from A Reddit post on November 14.

According to Netflix Help Center pageHowever, only those who are not on a basic ad-supported plan can still access the feature for older devices, such as Chromecasts. The help page explicitly mentions the few devices that still support streaming with Netflix:

  • 3rd generation or older Chromecast (no remote)
  • Google Nest Hub smart display
  • Some Vizio TVs
  • Some Compal TVs

If you are thinking of unblocking streaming on Netflix with Screen mirroringMaybe you’re out of luck. Netflix’s help page specifically notes that users with ad-supported plans will not be able to access “casting or mirroring,” even for older devices.

When we tried to screen mirror our iPhone 17 Pro running iOS 26.1 to a TCL TV, we received the following error “E100” using the standard Netflix plan (No Ads).
