My favorite product at CES might be this innovative wireless smart lock

If you are like me, you can use Wireless smart lock Because you live in an apartment or apartment and you can’t run wires to your front door. And you know what a pain replacing a battery can be. I’m lucky if I can make it a few months before I need to replace the four AA batteries in my old Eufy C30. So when I had the opportunity to take a look at the Lockin V7 Max here Consumer Electronics Show 2026a smart lock that works wirelessly but never needs to be recharged, let’s just say I was a little intrigued by it. I became even more interested when I learned that it does not rely on solar energy.

“AuraCharge requires neither sunlight nor manual charging, providing an endless power supply,” said Bill Chen, CEO of Lockin.

Optical wireless charging

The company calls its technology AuraCharge, or optical wireless charging. The V7 Max charges using a beam of light that wirelessly activates the smart lock from inside the door using a line-of-sight-based base station within a 4-meter range. The base station needs to be plugged in, but it can charge the smart lock almost continuously as long as it is not moved or blocked.

The base station itself isn’t particularly large, about the size of a small speaker, so you can place it on an entry table or mount it. According to Lockin, the optical output is eye-safe and has double safety certification from TÜV Rheinland and SGS.

Lukin says the V7 Max is designed to ease battery anxiety because, unlike disposable cells, rechargeable lithium-ion batteries and solar-powered locks, it’s not dependent on replacement or light, or limited by battery endurance.

Designed as a slim 15mm smart lock, the V7 Max features all of Lockin’s advanced capabilities. It has three types of biometric security, with finger vein, palm vein, and 3D facial recognition. You can also use the keyboard and voice input. Its Lockin AI system allows it to customize its user experience for ten basic scenarios, including preventing theft, detecting and managing deliveries, and video indexing for keyword searches.

It also works as a video doorbell, with two HD cameras on either side with a panoramic view. There are also two 5-inch touchscreens on the inside and outside of the lock, which should show you who’s at the door and let you interact with delivery staff and others. The V7 Max supports Google, Apple, Amazon and Samsung smart home systems as well as the Matter protocol.

There’s also a new Veno Pro Wireless model, which is a redesigned smart lock version of the Veno Pro Wireless dowry forwhich will also use AuraCharge wireless charging if you want a more traditional look of a smart lock with a keypad, but also new features like vein detection and palm rest. It should be an affordable option and is the one I would most likely choose if I got one, since it functions as a standard latch replacement rather than a more complicated installation like a mortise lock.

The new Veno Pro is a more standard alternative that shouldn’t cost as much as the V7 while still supporting optical charging.

Finally, the company is also launching a solar-powered smart lock, Aeon, which uses perovskite solar technology that Lockin claims has better energy conversion efficiency than regular solar panels. While this relies on the presence of sunlight, Lukin says it can still recharge using light from overcast skies, which could be very interesting for those who don’t live in sunny California or Texas. I wasn’t able to see a model at CES Unveiled, but I expect to see one at its booth later this week.
