Tired of seeing Copilot AI The logo appears everywhere Windows 11? Maybe it has at least become less ubiquitous. Reports this week The latest version of Windows 11, version 11.2512.28.0, has been found to have removed the Copilot language from key places like the Notepad PC app.
Previously, Notepad used Copilot for its presentation Generative writing Help, using a button that displays the AI tool’s swirling logo at the top right of the toolbar. Options included writing from scratch using prompts, rewriting, changing tone, and more. In the latest update, the Copilot language is gone from Notepad, and the feature has been renamed to Writing Tools.
Writing Tools appears to offer the same AI features as Copilot, but without the name. Copilot branding has also disappeared from Notepad’s settings, with AI tools now moved to the Advanced Features section. This change follows Reports from March Microsoft is quietly backing away from pushing Copilot into many parts of Windows 11.
This is not entirely surprising. Artificial intelligence is one of the less popular things In the United States in 2026. Co-pilot It sparked particular outrage on Reddit And other social networking sites.
For now, Microsoft appears to be pausing the Copilot expansion and removing the branding while leaving the AI features themselves intact, at least in Notepad. Other reports indicate AI features have completely disappeared from the Snipping Tool in Windows 11.
Again, only the Insider build of Windows 11 displays these Copilot changes at this time. When I ran the standard version of Notepad, Copilot was still there. So, unless you sign up for early versions of Windows updates, you’ll have to wait for these changes to take effect.
