in Windows Insider blog On Friday, Microsoft outlined some upcoming changes that Insiders — beta testers — should expect in the next few months. Among them are less intrusive Windows Update processes, improvements to Copilot integration, simplification of the Start menu and taskbar, fewer notifications, a smaller memory footprint, greater stability and more. They are all welcome – and they are overdue.
Microsoft plans to be “more intentional about how and where Copilot integrates across Windows, with a focus on truly useful, well-designed experiences.”
Additionally, the tools will provide information “more intentionally by default, keeping content easy to navigate and reducing unnecessary interruptions.” The whole point of tools is to give the user the ability to understand information at a glance and not interfere. This means you’ll be able to customize or turn them off more easily and reduce the number of notifications overall.
One big performance update will be reducing the operating system’s memory usage, leaving more available for the programs you’re running. This is huge, not only because Windows hogs memory, but because for at least the next couple of years, it simply won’t be practical Configure a new system with more memory.
Microsoft says it will increase the allowed interval for pausing an update, make it more predictable and add the ability to restart or shut down without a sudden forced installation if you forget to snooze. In addition, the company promises fewer reboots and automatic notifications.
I can definitely live without this screen during Windows setup.
You’ll also be able to skip updates when you first set up a device, which is an interesting change because it’s something most people only do once. But at the very least, it should provide a better experience for beginners.
This is also a welcome, if small, step forward in making Windows devices portable (e.g ROG Xbox Ally X) looks more like gaming consoles and less like underperforming laptops, as does adding support for controller-based navigation to generate a PIN during setup and in settings.
Microsoft also promises faster, more consistent and more flexible performance overall, including more streamlined File Explorer operation. The company says Bluetooth and USB will provide more stable connections, fewer operating system crashes, and more consistent wake-up behavior.
