Meta’s impressive, photorealistic digital versions of real places created using its “Hyperscape” capture technology, which uses cameras on a Quest 3 or Quest 3S VR headset to scan a room, have until now been isolated spaces. If you want to visit a virtual version of a room in your house (or Gordon Ramsay’s home kitchen), you can only do so on your own. But starting this week, Meta is rolling out the ability to share links that will allow other people to visit Hyperscape rooms with you in a Quest 3 or 3S VR headset or via the Meta Horizon mobile app.
Up to eight people will be able to exist in one copy of the Hyperscape world, According to Meta’s blog postWe hope to increase this number in the future. The Meta is also working on “porting the display to the device” and adding audio to Hyperscape’s worlds.
However, you may have to wait a while to be able to invite your friends to a space. Meta’s blog post urges readers to “please wait” if they don’t have the feature yet, and Meta spokeswoman Rachel Hulme says it will roll out “gradually to all users over the next few months.” According to Holm, once the feature is rolled out to you, you’ll have to re-scan the space to be able to create a shareable world.
This feature is part of Meta’s vision of a metaverse that includes digital real-world spaces as well as games. According to Meta:
As the transformation continues to take shape, we believe a vibrant mix of experiences is key. Some days you might want to immerse yourself in an otherworldly adventure, and that’s where our extensive library of VR apps and worlds comes into play. Other days, you may want to visit a digital replica of a physical space that you might not have the opportunity to see otherwise. Or you may want to have a good time with friends a little closer to home. This is what makes Hyperscape possible. By bringing you together in realistic digital versions of physical spaces with the people who matter most, Hyperscape can make your experiences in the supernatural world more meaningful. and Hazar. In the future, we’re excited to see what creators build by mixing styles and techniques.
I visited some rooms scanned using the Hyperscape Capture app Earlier this yearI was impressed by how beautiful they looked. If you want an idea of what they’re like, check this out This is YouTube video; The level of detail is similar to what I saw in my demos.
Updated, November 20: Added that you will have to rescan the room to be able to invite people to it.
