Meta is expanding its nuclear energy ambitions to include Bill Gates’ startup


These AI projects include Prometheusthe first of many supercomputing clusters, is expected to go live in New Albany, Ohio, sometime this year. Meta is financing the construction of new nuclear reactors as part of the agreements, the first of which may be activated “as early as 2030.” These announcements are part of Meta’s ongoing goal to support future AI operations With nuclear energyhaving previously signed a deal with Constellation for Revival of old nuclear power plant last year.

Financial information for the agreements has not been released, but Meta says it will “pay the entire cost of the energy used by our data centers so that consumers are not responsible for these expenses.”

“Our agreements with Vistra, TerraPower, Oklo and Constellation make Meta one of the most important nuclear power buyers in American history,” Joel Kaplan, Meta’s chief global affairs officer, said in the announcement. “Modern data centers and AI infrastructure are essential to securing America’s position as a global leader in AI.”
