Marathon It is the next game from Bungie, the popular studio behind the Halo and Destiny franchises. The developer’s new game was scheduled to be released last September, but it received a lukewarm reception from players who tried the game Alpha testing It led Bungie to delay the release to give it some fine-tuning.
It looks like Bungie is ready to try again, as they have confirmed that Marathon will be released in March. The company revealed the new release date on January 19, when the game’s pre-order trailer was uploaded to YouTube.

What is a marathon?
Marathon is a first-person shooter game series developed by Bungie, first released in 1994 for the Apple Macintosh. It and the next two games from the original Marathon trilogy are sci-fi mysteries set in the 28th century, when humans travel through space in spaceships. One of them, UESC Marathon, is being attacked by aliens until there is only a lone security guard, the player, left to fight them. Players discover that the ship’s artificial intelligence, named Durandal, has become sentient and evil, even summoning aliens to attack the ship. The following games involve players discovering the mysteries behind Durandal and other ancient AIs that have been manipulating alien races.
The series was Bungie’s first success, and was innovative for its time in revealing parts of the story through computer terminals, where you could read messages from the different AIs running the ship, as well as the crew’s diaries.
In this new version of Marathon, players will visit Tau Ceti IV, the planet where humans from UESC Marathon settled. The year is 2893, and something has caused several colonists to disappear. The survivors have formed various groups to wage what they can from the colony. The people who carry out these atrocities are known as “Runners”, which are humans trained in combat who use cybernetic modifications to survive on the planet. Players will create their own runner to get loot and find out what happened to the colony as they fought the aliens as well as other runners.
What is an extraction shooter?
A shooting game is a type of online multiplayer game where the focus is not just on killing enemies or other players. Instead, the goal revolves around collecting loot and completing quests.
To make things interesting, players can only extract loot from specific locations in the game world. To complicate matters further, the beginning of the extraction process will include some signals that alert both enemies and players in the vicinity. This means that you will have to defend yourself for a short period of time from what can be waves of computer-controlled enemies or human players who may or may not try to steal your loot.

How is Marathon related to Halo?
Marathon was Bungie’s first successful series, but it was Halo that made the developer a household name. While the two game franchises don’t have any established narrative connections, there have always been subtle references to the Marathon games in Halo. Bungie has said that Halo is a spiritual successor to Marathon, but there it is Fan theories Linking Marathon, Halo, and even Bungie’s other major franchise, Destiny.
