Lucid Motors to double electric vehicle production in 2025 after early difficulties for its Gravity SUV

Lucid Motors will build twice as many electric vehicles in 2025 than it did the year before, a sign that the company has recovered from early production struggles with its new Gravity SUV.

Company Announce On Monday, it ended the year with 18,378 electric vehicles built, with 8,412 coming in the fourth quarter alone. That’s more than Lucid made at its factory in Casa Grande, Arizona, in the first half of the year. Lucid also said it delivered – i.e. sold – 15,841 vehicles over the entire year, an increase of 55% from 2024 numbers.

The stronger finish to 2025 positions Lucid for a momentous year that will see the company begin building its first vehicle on its new midsize EV platform. The company said this first car will cost about $50,000, making it close to the same part of the market as the Tesla Model Y and Rivian’s upcoming R2 SUV.

The numbers still pale in comparison to the expectations Lucid Motors put forth when it went public $4 billion reverse merger in 2021. At that time the company He claimed It will deliver 135,000 vehicles in 2025, of which 86,000 will be Gravity SUVs, 42,000 will be Air sedans, and the remaining 7,000 will come from the mid-size electric vehicle that has yet to make its debut.

These goals quickly became unrealistic as Lucid faced production, supply and demand challenges for both vehicles, all while navigating an automotive market severely disrupted by the pandemic. The company particularly struggled in early 2025 when it began ramping up production of the Gravity SUV. Since then, the company has been dealing with a number of quality issues with the vehicle, so much so that interim CEO Mark Winterhoff sent an email to customers in December saying that subscriber In their “frustration”.

“Unfortunately, the outstanding software issues have impacted our customers’ experience and satisfaction. I want to assure you that we are laser-focused on addressing these issues,” he wrote.
