Lizn Hearpieces Review: Affordable but uncomfortable hearing aids

Founded in 2015, the company hesitantly developed its launch product throughout the 2000s, only to ditch it in 2020 when, according to Lizn’s history page, HearingThe earbud combo idea didn’t work. But the company seemed to be nothing if not persistent, and four years later, a new Leisen was born. The revamped Hearpieces finally arrived on US shores in the past couple of weeks.

Lizn Hearpieces are the company’s only product, and their inspiration from the world of professional audio is immediately apparent. Out of the box, these don’t look like any other hearing aids on the market, with a puffy design that, despite being self-contained in-ear, is far from unobtrusive – especially if you opt for the graphite or ruby ​​red color scheme. (I’ve received the relatively harmless sand-colored devices.)

At 4.58 grams per bud, it’s as heavy as it sounds; inside Space inside the earthere are a few other models with more heft, including Kingwell Melody and Apple AirPods Pro 3. The units come with four sets of ear tips in different sizes; Virtual media worked well for me.

The biggest problem isn’t how you place the tip of the device in your ear; So does the rest of the unit. Lizn Hearpieces should be precisely twisted into the ear canal so that one edge of the unit fits snugly behind the tragus, filling the conch. My ears may be a little tighter than others, but I didn’t find this easy, since the device is so large that I had to work on it to hold it in place. As you might have guessed, over time, this became a bit of a pain, especially since the unit has no hardware controls. All functions are performed through different combinations of taps on the outside of either earcup, and the more sideways you hit the side of my head, the more uncomfortable things get.
