Homelessness in some parts of the internal empire is decreasing this year, according to an annual study, which evaluates the number of people living in shelters or on the street.

The number of homelessness of homelessness in 2025 marked the first decline in the homelessness of San Bernardino County for years. Previously, the homeless population has been steadily increasing, doubled between 2018 and 2024.

San Bernardino reported a total decline of 10% in the number of homeless people counted compared to last year, led by a 14% drop in people living outside. Riverside County reported that homelessness has increased by 7%, with more people in shelters, but less living on the street.

The Count is held in one night in January when government officials and volunteers Search their region To see how many homeless people they find. Grabs include people staying in private or public shelters or using hotel vouchers that they classify as “protected”, as well as those who live on the street who are considered “unwavering”.

These data help cities and counties evaluate their common population of homeless and services plan, including emergency shelters and transitional or permanent housing.

Throughout California, the number of other regions is currently showing mixed results. San Diego reports a 7% drop in homelessness, with large drops in unlit families and veterans. But Fresno/Madera Count In the Central Valley, it detects a 3% increase in homelessness in the region since 2023, with a 10% jump in homeless homelessness.

California had the highest homeless population in the country last year, but also saw a more slow growth of homelessness, Marissa Kendall of Calmatters Reported. Homelessness increased by 3% to over 187,000 people in California last year, compared to 18% growth across the country.

In County San BernardinoThe annual issue, held on January 23, found 3,821 adults and children for homeless this year, with 434 compared to last year. This is due to the decline of homeless people living on the streets or in other public places.

Marcus Dillard, chief of homeless services, said the county had invested $ 22 million in permanent housing and other support for people who were experiencing homelessness last year.

“The county evaluates the funding that is distributed to support local authorities providing support and services for people who are experiencing homelessness,” he said.

District leader Joe Baka, Jr., said in a statement that he was encouraged by the data, “because it shows that our efforts make a change. Although our work is far from that, I am glad to see progress in reducing homelessness.”

But there were still hot spots of homelessness, including three of the largest cities in the county.

The city of San Bernardino counted 1535 homeless people – the largest number in the county – followed by Victorville with 448 and fountains with 364.

In Riverside CountyThe total number of homeless increased by 7% since 2023, the last time employees held the number. This may sound like bad news, but homelessness increased by 12% in 2023 and 15% in 2022, which means Homelessness growth slowed down Over the past few years.

However, the number of homeless people in the shelters increased sharply from 1.284 in 2023 to 2 012 this year, as the county increased the shelter capacity by 11%, according to the number of time. But this is offset by a 19% reduction in street people, decreasing from 2.441 two years ago to 1 978 this year.

The city of Riverside had the largest population without homeless, with 1087 people counting this year. The Count found 509 homeless people living in Indio and 322 in Hemet.
