1 year agoLenovo has become the first company besides Valve to announce a mobile device running SteamOS instead of Windows. And the result was The Legion Go S with SteamOS; It’s no Steam Deck Killer given the price and battery life, but it represents a huge step forward in performance, portability and playability.
Now, Lenovo is doing it again – it’s bringing SteamOS to the market Legion Go 2its flagship portable device with detachable controllers similar to the Nintendo Switch and The most advanced display in a mobile device yet. Lenovo plans to start selling the SteamOS version in June at a starting price of $1,199, the company just announced at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. The specifications are the same otherwise.
Yes this is it completely Price and quite a wait before it arrives! Lenovo actually launched the Windows version of this laptop at the end of October, so it will be seven to eight months old by the time SteamOS makes its debut. (With Legion Go S, the Windows version had only launched three months earlier.)
But simply switching from Windows to SteamOS can provide a noticeable performance boost, too, and the Legion Go 2 isn’t just a standout because of the AMD chip. As of this writing, it’s the only handheld on the market with a variable refresh rate OLED display to make games look amazing and one of the few that can be used as a tablet, with an excellent built-in kickstand and comfortable, detachable sculpted wireless controllers for tabletop play. There’s also an FPS mouse built into one of these controllers, with an additional dial to allow it to glide smoothly across the table.
I called the original Legion Go “Handheld Swiss Army Knife“, and my time with the Legion Go 2 is pretty much the same. I still find the newer Legion Go 2 a bit clunky and awkward with all the extra mouse buttons under my fingers as I hold it, but there’s no denying its versatility. Speaking of which: You can actually load Bazzite onto the Legion Go 2 if you want to preview SteamOS there. Everything seems to work, including the detachable controllers and RGB lighting.
