Kate Hudson is in the Oscar race for 2026. This is the movie for which she was nominated

Nominations for 98th Academy Awards It was announced Thursday morning, and one Oscar nod in particular sparked some heated conversations.

In the Best Actress category, Kate Hudson She received her first nomination in 25 years for her role in Song Sung Blue. The last time she was in Oscar contention was for her supporting role as Penny Lane in Cameron Crowe’s rock ‘n’ roll film, Almost Famous.

Song Sung Blue draws inspiration from the 2008 documentary of the same name about the singing duo Clare and Mike Sardina and from Lightning and Thunder, the Neil Diamond cover band they formed. Hudson plays Claire opposite Hugh Jackman’s Mike. The story follows the real-life couple as they performed together around Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the 1980s and 1990s. Mike Sardina died of a head injury in 2006.

Hudson’s Oscar nomination is the only nod for Song Sung Blue. The actor also received a Golden Globe nomination, but the award went to Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs, I’d Kick You. Byrne also received an Oscar nomination today in the Best Actress category, along with Emma Stone for Bugonia, Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, and Renate Rainsef for Sentimental Value.

Perhaps surprisingly, Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were not nominated for their roles in Wicked: For Good, despite both actors receiving Golden Globe nominations this year. With One Battle After Another receiving 13 Oscar nominations, it was unexpected that Chase Infinity would be overlooked for a Best Actress nomination for her role as Willa in the film.

Song Sung Blue is still showing in theaters but can be rented at home on Prime Video, Fandango, and other video platforms.

Conan O’Brien returns as host of the Academy Awards, which will air live on Sunday, March 15 at 7 PM ET on ABC and Hulu. Starting in 2029, the awards ceremony will be broadcast on YouTube.
