On Wednesday, Apple unveil iPhone 16e. The form is replaced by the iPhone SE and iPhone 14 in the company assortment. The new phone is the least expensive member in the iPhone 16, with the goal of emerging markets, including India.
The second largest smartphone market in the world (behind China) has fueled great sales in iPhone, with Apple recently Cracking the best five sellers In India. A week before the iPhone 16E version, it is not clear what the device’s effect on this main market is.
In 2024, India became the fourth largest market for Apple, after the United States, China and Japan, and witnessed 12 million shipments during the quarter, with 35 % growth on an annual basis, per IDC. 15 million teachers are expected to cross this year.
But it was not the iPhone SE or iPhone 14 that helped Cubino, California, to the company’s success in the South Asian market. In fact, iPhone 15 and iPhone 13 of the highest models are shipped, with 6 % stake in the total smartphone market in the fourth quarter.

Even with the expansion of Apple in India, the iPhone SE has seen a relatively decrease. IPhone SE (2020) represents 18 % of the total iPhone shipments in the launch year, while the iPhone SE (2022) constitutes 6 % of total shipments after two years, for each IDC data exclusively with Techcrunch. In contrast, iPhone 13 shaped approximately 40 % of iPhone shipments in 2022.
According to IDC, IDHONE SE shipments in India rejected a small size in 2023 and 2024. No year witnessed a new version of SE.

Navkendar Singh, Assistant Vice President at IDC India, told Techcrunch that nearly two -thirds of the iPhone sizes in India come from models of the previous generation.
Android dominates the smart phone market in India, with a medium phone of $ 259. Chinese brands such as Vivo, OPPO and Xiaomi have made great steps on the market. However, the iPhone is still the best dog in the market sector $ 600, followed by Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This means, in essence, that the largest iPhone competitor is other iPhone devices.
The iPhone 16e starts from 59,900 Indian rupees (about $ 689) and rises to $ 1034. In contrast, iPhone 15 starts older than $ 804 and iPhone 16 at $ 919.
In a market like India, where old sales devices continue, the price difference may not be sufficient to justify the choice of iPhone 16E, for example, iPhone 15, given the features that sacrifice the budget phone. Retaires often sell both online non -connection, ancient models like iPhone 15 at lower prices than Apple to enhance sales.
The new features of the 16E offer may not be large enough to attract new buyers, given the popularity of the Monthly installment option (EMI), which allows users to purchase a high ticket component through installment payments. Almost half of customers who buy a distinguished phone in India ($ 400-700 dollars) choose to finance their devices in this way.
“With EMI offers, the real difference will make many prefer iPhone 15 or 16 over iPhone 16ee,” Singh said.

Apple has expanded Apple Intelligence to a more affordable chip with iPhone 16E. This can help the company to pay more Apple services revenue over time. However, Apple’s intelligence is currently in its cradle and in the United States and will not reach India until April.
16E is the last iPhone of Apple assembled in India – along with other iPhone 16 models. However, the local assembly is unlikely to affect pricing, at least in the short term.
Sanyam Chaurasia, chief analyst at Canalys, believes that iPhone 16e may help Apple to attract customers who may pick up iPhone 12 or 13 – both are still available through retail channels in India.
He added that younger users may also choose the iPhone 16e, instead of the oldest 15. “It is a model that offers a specialized audience.”
Unlike other emerging markets such as Latin America and Southeast Asia, India is not a market driven by telecommunications companies as transport companies support smartphones by collecting them with their plans. This makes the iPhone 16e a relatively expensive option for Indian buyers.
Chorasia said that the timing of the iPhone 16E launch makes it less attractive, because this is not a upgrade season, which usually falls around Indian festivals in the last part of the year.
“Apple may have discounts on iPhone 16e during the holiday season later this year, but there will also be similar discounts on the current iPhone models, making it more attractive than this new model,” he said.
