Windows 11 users Those who browsed their files after the update earlier this month, may have noticed a new folder they did not recognize. It turns out to be very important.
The empty folder, called “INETPUB”, caused curiosity and confusion online, as some people deleted it. The folder is used to manage internet information services records, but it appears even for those who have not operated this service.
While nothing happened after deleting the folder, the deletion creates a Security weaknessAccording to Microsoft.
“After installing the updates listed in the safety update table for your operating system,” Microsoft said in A. Security update. “This folder should not be deleted regardless of whether Internet information services (IIS) are active on the target device. This behavior is part of the changes that increase protection and do not require any procedure from information technology managers and final users.”
Microsoft said that deletion creates a problem in which the attacker can use the so -called “flaws link” to access your computer. Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for further comment.
If you delete the folder, restoring it by running online information services will repair weakness, according to The latest Windows.
To do this:
You can open your Windows folder to check that “INETPUB” has returned. That’s it.
