ICE is invading airports across the United States

At Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, ICE agents fan out around check-in desks, according to videos shared online. At Newark Liberty International Airport New JerseyICE officers were seen walking through the United Airlines main terminal wearing vests with the words “ICE” written on them. At San Francisco International Airport, multiple videos show what appear to be plainclothes law enforcement officers forcefully detaining a young woman while dozens of onlookers watch and film her.

according to Preparing reports From The New York Times ICE is deployed at 14 airports across the country, including John F. Kennedy and LaGuardia Airport in New York, as well as airports in Houston, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

One of the eyewitnesses who captured the incident at the San Francisco airport told WIRED that she began filming after hearing a “horrific” scream while walking to her gate. The woman, who did not want to be identified due to privacy concerns, said it appeared that “two unidentified men” were holding down “a woman trying to hold her child.”

The witness said: “I ran and asked who they were, whether they were agents, and what was the evidence of their identity.” She said they never let her see their badge numbers, and she eventually called the police. “When I arrived (the San Francisco Police Department) surrounded the men who had detained the woman and (refused) to speak to anyone in the crowd asking for answers — just stared straight ahead. All SFPD had visible badge numbers, so I asked them why I could see their badge numbers and the agency they worked for but not these two faceless men. They never identified themselves, and the police eventually pushed the crowd away and I left to catch my flight.”

In other videos of the incident, officers appear to set up a blockade between the individuals who arrested the woman and onlookers. “People around them were visibly upset and shaken,” she said. “They were screaming at the agents and calling them Nazis.”

“It was so terrifying, I felt sick to my stomach,” the eyewitness told WIRED. “I didn’t sleep last night when I got home.”

A spokesman for San Francisco International Airport confirmed NBC San Francisco Federal agents arrested a woman at the airport on Sunday, but said it was unrelated to a broader deployment of ICE agents at airports, police said. SFPD did not respond to a request for comment.
