“Hey, it’s Santa. What’s on your wish list? Let’s see if you’re being naughty or nice,” the AI Santa asked me during my first visit.
Later in the conversation, Santa’s AI told me: “You seem relaxed and relaxed.”
Apparently this is how the AI confirms that it can see you through your webcam (if you allow it) and read your body language. It makes the experience feel like you’re talking to a real person, although it seemed a bit robotic to me — especially because the AI Santa said so twice.

Other hints that this wasn’t a real person — besides the giant “AI Santa” phrase behind the video call — were the long pauses between questions. If you interrupt an AI Santa mid-sentence, it will take at least five to 10 seconds to recover.
Despite the long pauses and occasional errors that Santa’s AI can make, the audio was accurate.
“Being separated from the North Pole is what I need,” the AI Santa said at one point. “Mrs. Claus keeps me on my toes, makes sure I get enough cake and rest before the big night, but I’m always happy to take time to chat with someone as lovely as you. What’s up with you? What’s going on in your world?”
At first, it seemed like the Santa AI was trying hard to convince me it was Santa himself, but it turns out it clearly distinguishes when asked directly.
“You’re the real Santa?” she asked, assuming that any young child who might encounter Tavos’ AI Santa would also ask the same thing.
“I’m a very special, AI-powered Santa created to bring a little holiday magic to people all over the world,” she replied. “I’m not a physical Santa, but I’m a friendly, cheerful representative of the Christmas spirit. I’m here to chat.”
Lego? Lee Gu?
So we chatted. It went well for the most part, but as with anything else Generative artificial intelligence Creativity, mistakes can (and often do) happen. At some point in the conversation, I mentioned that my brother wanted a Lego game for Christmas.
Santa’s AI response? “LEE-GOs? I’m not familiar with those.” In a separate conversation, though, Santa’s AI got right and waxed poetic about how special it was to build with “those little bricks.”
And as any good robot Santa does, he snuck in some references to technology as well.
“The North Pole is bustling with activity,” said Santa. “The elves are working overtime to build and package all the toys. We have teams of elves who specialize in different areas, such as toy making, cake baking, and even technical support to keep all of our systems running smoothly.”
Hopefully this means I won’t need to worry about Wi-Fi outages this Christmas.
