Be sure to include the US country code at the beginning of the number to ensure it is added correctly. You’ll also be asked to name the new contact: “ChatGPT” is the obvious choice here, but you can choose another name if you prefer. You will then have a new option in your contacts list, which you can click to start chatting.
You can link your ChatGPT account by clicking the ChatGPT tab at the top of the conversation, then Continue Link your ChatGPT account The URL is listed on the screen. This isn’t actually necessary to interact with the bot, but it means that your WhatsApp conversations with ChatGPT will be synced to your account. If you’re a paid user, this also means you’ll get higher usage limits and access to smarter models. And if you link your account before free access to the chatbot ends in January, your chat history within WhatsApp will be kept in your ChatGPT account.
From now on, you can interact with ChatGPT just like you would with any of your other WhatsApp contacts. Tap the contact’s name at the top of the chat to manage its settings. You can change the wallpaper, mute notifications, choose whether or not photos will be saved to your phone, and lock a chat to keep it hidden from view, for example.
Switch back to the official ChatGPT apps for web or mobile, and if you’ve linked your account, you’ll see your WhatsApp chats recorded here as well. You can continue the conversation from the official apps, but anything you say from that point on will not sync back to your chats in WhatsApp.

A lot of the basic functionality you get with ChatGPT is also available elsewhere within WhatsApp. You can ask ChatGPT questions, have it summarize something you give it, have it translate or edit text, use it to brainstorm ideas, or even get help with programming if you want to do it within a WhatsApp chat.
