GoTrax Mustang electric bike review: punchy and small

And although it only has a kickstand on one side rather than a scooter-style lower frame rack, the bike’s aforementioned short wheelbase meant it never felt unstable when I jumped and kicked the stand. It also comes with a nifty little setup that will give you an extra boost while out on the bike. Again, if you’re pushing a bike weighing about 50 pounds uphill, you may need some extra oomph.

Other than the flat metal paint job with the gorgeous deep red logo, the Mustang’s real highlight is its control system, which features a stunning full-color LCD display that shows in real time your speed, remaining battery, pedal assist level, odometer, and how much of the available 750-watt motor is being used at any given moment.

One man show

Remember those 86 miles I mentioned before? The ones that say you can get them on a single charge? Well, maybe only if you live in a flat area and keep your Mustang on the lowest power setting. the Product page on the GoTrax website It has a handy little chart that tells you the estimated range for each mode to give you a full charge.

But here in the (reassuringly named) Chapel Hill, I got close to 28 miles on a single charge, constantly switching back and forth between all five power modes as well as the often wide-open throttle. 28 miles certainly isn’t bad, especially if, like me, you only use your e-bike to commute a few miles to and from work or school.

Although there are mounts on the downtube for a decently sized (and creatively placed) basket, there don’t appear to be many other mounts for front or rear rack options, panniers, or additional seating. It all gives the sense that the Mustang, like those dirt bikes of the 1980s, was only meant to be ridden by one person at a time. If you are looking for Family transport contractor Or something more adept at replacing your car for everyday errands, the Mustang probably isn’t the bike. Instead, it seems to be designed almost exclusively to squeeze from point A to point B and back.
