Google’s new AI-powered travel features create itineraries and flight deals

Google’s new group of Artificial intelligence features It aims to help you create a complete vacation plan, including finding flight deals and booking dinner reservations as well.

In a blog post on Monday, Google is showing off a travel-focused expansion of its service Canvas layout toolIt is already capable of compiling information for planning purposes. After you enter a rough vacation idea, Canvas can take that idea and create a suggested itinerary around the ideas you provide.

While demoing this feature, I asked a Google representative to use Canvas to create a five-day vacation in Tokyo centered around visiting restaurants that serve ramen and pizza. After entering this request into Google’s AI mode, the Canvas feature was activated and proceeded to provide a day-by-day visual suggestion of different restaurants specializing in both, and how to visit them.

Just to make it more interesting, I had the representative then ask the AI feature to include the locations of several tourist-friendly gyms – for the sake of authenticity. Canvas then recreated the plans to add this suggestion accordingly. These travel-related improvements to Canvas will be released first as a feature in Google Labs while they are still in development, but plans can be shared for others to view. However, Canvas, as it currently works, doesn’t allow others to further edit and improve, so for now you’ll likely still need to use a shared Google Doc when collaborating on travel plans.

Google Flight Deals feature

AI-powered flight offers will allow you to search for a flight by typing in your criteria.

Google

Google is also adding a Flight Deals feature that will search and find flights based on your text prompts. During our demo, we requested round-trip flights from New York to France anytime during March over a five-day period, and continued searching to find a variety of flights that met this criteria.

Google’s AI mode also adds the ability to find restaurants and book dinner reservations, largely pulling from restaurants already built into services like Google Maps. During the demo, I asked a Google representative to find casual Taiwanese restaurants in New York City for dinner that night. Although Advantage found such a restaurant, it was not available for reservations. In addition to listing a restaurant that met what I was looking for, the search also returned an upscale restaurant that included support for booking a reservation.

Many of these features are ones that Google has long offered in its traditional search products, but are now being reconfigured slightly to access them through Gemini’s AI and Assistant mode. Other AI assistants, such as ChatGPT, have already been able to generate travel ideas. However, since Google already offers many travel and appointment booking services, AI mode now organizes these services into results for added convenience.

Google’s travel features also face competition from a number of other AI-based travel services, e.g Going app for traveling by planethat AI Trip Planner from Booking.com And even an AI travel planner Creates trips based on how you describe your feelings.
