Google Maps now lets you access Gemini while walking and cycling

Google Maps users can now access the Gemini app hands-free while walking and cycling, Google announced on Thursday. The update comes just months after Google Maps rolled out Gemini Experience hands-free conversational driving.

This announcement represents Google’s ongoing efforts to Connect Gemini with more Parts of people’s daily liveswhile transforming Google Maps from static directions to real-time conversational navigation.

While you’re out and about using Maps, you can now ask Gemini questions like “Tell me more about the neighborhood I’m in,” and “What are some must-see attractions?” or “Are there cafes with bathrooms along my route?”

Google says walking and typing can be difficult, which is why it offers users the ability to ask questions without breaking stride or leaving the Maps navigation screen.

If you’re riding a bike, you can ask Gemini questions while staying focused on the road, Google says. You can ask questions like “What is the expected arrival time?” Or “When’s my next meeting?” Additionally, you can ask Gemini to “Text Emily I’m 10 minutes late” so you can connect with others while keeping your grip on the wheel.

The feature allows you to ask multiple questions in the conversation. For example, you could ask: “Is there a budget-friendly restaurant with vegetarian options along my route, or a restaurant a few miles away?… What’s parking like there?”

The update is now available worldwide on iOS wherever Gemini is available, and is rolling out to Android.

This move comes as Google recently Updated maps With new features, including “Know Before You Go” tips sections powered by Gemini that show important information about places you’re interested in. For example, you might tell users the best way to book a reservation, reveal secret menu items, suggest the best place to park, and more.

In addition, the navigation app has also added an improved Explore tab and a new feature to predict EV charger availability. The updated Explore tab makes it easier and faster to find popular locations near you, while the EV Charger feature lets users see how many chargers are likely to be available once they reach their destination.

Thursday’s announcement comes one day later Google has updated the Chrome browser With improved Gemini integration and proxy features for autonomous tasks, it looks to compete with AI browsers from companies like OpenAI, Confusion, Operaand Browser company. The tech giant also launched a fixed sidebar for Gemini and a new “auto-surfing” feature that can navigate websites for you.
