Google released the first beta of the next version of its smartphone operating system, Android 17, on Friday, after an aborted launch earlier in the week.
The first beta version was supposed to be launched on Wednesday, but Google changed the date to “soon” at the last minute without further clarification, according to CNET. Our sister site PCMag reported.

On Friday, Android Authority shared Beta shots From live updates with a newer, longer progress bar and clearer buttons. The images show that the progress bar now spans the entire panel, and that the exit navigation button has become more prominent.

The beta will also include new tools to improve Wi-Fi connectivity and expanded profiles for companion devices.
The company says it expects Canary to reach platform stability in March, which includes final APIs for app developers, and that the full release will come a few months later (TechAdvisor says it’s likely in June).
The beta precedes the expected launch of The budget Pixel 10A next week.
