As the cruelty of the Second Trump Administration continues to bear the recent executive order Targeting countries to countries to criminalize crazy people And institutionalizing those with disabilities in mental health creates an interesting dilemma for Sacramento politicians.
In the last few months, legislators have been pushing Assembly Bill 630Legislation that would facilitate towing, dismantling and essentially the destruction of many RVs throughout the country under the guise of health and safety. If accepted, the state would allow the cities to destroy the last rescue lines for Californians who are already pushed out of their homes by increasing rents – and forcing them in the harsh, criminal systems that are now supported by the White House.
Legislators must choose compassion and reject AB 630.
This question is deeply personal to me. In March 2020, I worked two well -paid jobs in downtown San Francisco, but I could only afford to rent RV. When Covid struck, my medicines were cut off. It took nearly three years to restore them. Without medication or stable rental income, I lost RV. My dog Rex and I endured at 15 traumatic months in a shelterWhere the daily harassment of staff made life unbearable.
Living there was much worse than being in RV. After Speaking against bullyingI was expelled with a one -hour notice, two hours before sunset, without a chance to collect my belongings. That evening we slept on the ground at 40-degree time.
After two more months in a tent, with the help of social services providers, I finally provided disability benefits and found an apartment.
Cities and counties can currently destroy “non -surgical” or “abandoned” vehicles worth $ 500 or less after withdrawal and storage for 30 days. This policy is already at risk for many people’s homes, as many cities declare vehicles inoperative, just if their engine will not start, or considers them abandoned, even when inhabited. The AB 630 raises this threshold to $ 4000 per RV, dramatically increasing the number of RVs subject to summary withdrawal, storage and destruction.
As the author of the bill, a member of the Assembly Mark GonzalezAcknowledges this will affect most tens of thousands of RVs that have been used as a shelter for the last time. Yet the bill does nothing to address homelessness By itself – all he would do is undress the defense.

Proponents of this RVS bill as threats to health and safety, but for many Californians RV are their only refuge. Removing these mobile homes directly threatens their personal health and safety.
True fears about public safety must be considered without destroying housing for the last number of tens of thousands of Californians. Removing and dismantling someone’s RV takes away their shelter from wind, rain and the dangers of the street, as well as their ability to store water and cook food. This erodes their agency and autonomy.
Even after these actions, the same number of police officers will have the task of moving people together – people are now more desired by losing any resemblance to home or privacy.
The life of privacy in public view is very difficult to start. Given the pressure of tickets and drawing from law enforcement, the situation becomes almost unbearable. For people with homes, basic needs – clean, warm, search for privacy, access to water, use of toilet, eating food, or dumping of garbage – take only moments. For the heartless, these tasks can consume all day.
Those who would suffer the negative effects of the adoption of this bill are our members of the Community, which fight the most. They are no more affected than the problems of public safety than those who live without relaxation.
It is far easier to elevate individuals when we do not start by knocking them down. California leaders must reject this inhuman bill and focus on the positive, effective means of protecting our housing crisis, which instead uses people’s potential.
