DJI, known as drones, GIMBALS and motion cameras, release the first 360 cameraOSMO 360. It contains some impressive specifications, with large 1 inch sensors, 8K video in 50 frames per second and 120 megapixels.
The 360 camera market is definitely not crowded. Insta360 is the largest name, followed by Kandao and GOPRO with a refreshing max but the maximum aging. OSMO 360 seems interesting on paper, but then, there are small wrinkles at the present time not available in the United States. The reasons why unclear.
OSMO 360 specifications are “360 degrees 360 degrees.” This will not be the first 360 camera with 1 inch sensors, but what DJI does is more interesting than that, thus hedging with marketing.
OSMO 360 uses square image sensors instead of usual rectangular sensors. Since all the lenses, it included 360 camera lenses, a circular image focuses on a sensor, the square image sensor contains fewer unused pixel units (i.e. sides of a rectangular image sensor). This has theoretical benefits in terms of cost, size and energy consumption. According to DJI, this is a 4K-Dy-4K box sensor.
The actual size of each slice is 1/1.1 inches, technically, it is a little smaller than 1 inches, but it is among the largest 360 camera. DJI says that the pixels themselves are 2.4μm – with the same size as our current choice of the best 360 camera, Insta360 x5,, Which is a pixel size of 2.44M with smaller sensors 1/1.28 inches (although it is hedging by saying that this is “the maximum equivalent pixel size”).
Regardless, OSMO 360 sensors are large for the category. DJI says the sensors have 13.5 dynamic stops, which Insta360 also says with X5. In my test, the X5 is great with high -range scenes and in low light. OSMO 360 has a little faster lenses, F1.9 against X5 F2.0, so performance should be good in low light. also, Dji’s Osmo Action 5 Pro is a low -lighting cam hero.
Video specifications and pictures are impressive. OSMO 360 Maxes 8K at 50 frames per second. the Insta360 x5 It can do 8K as well, but in 30 frames per second. This means that the movement can be slightly smoother, the organisms of the movement can be less clear or you can slow down the shots for slow movement. If you want to slow down more than that, OSMO 360 also provides 4K100.
120 megapixel images are simply huge. until Kando’s Qooocam 3 UltraOur current choice for The best 360 camera quality cameraThe maximum in “just” 96 megapixels. So in theory, OSMO 360 will offer more detailed images and allow you to be enlarged and shortened more strict.
The high temperature has long been formed with high -resolution 360 cameras when recording the video, and DJI says that OSMO 360 can record 8k30 for up to 100 minutes. This is great, although only 7 minutes that Insta360 X5 can do. The “Selfie Stick” optional rod with an integrated battery time can extend to 180 minutes. OSMO 360 will also ship quickly, up to 50 % in 12 minutes.
OSMO 360 contains 105 GB of built -in storage, but no removable storage has been mentioned. With high -resolution video files, this storage will be filled quickly.
Finally, there is weight. DJI says Osmo 360 weighs only 183 grams. This would make it lighter than Insta360 X5 and much lighter than Kandao Qoookam 3 Ultra. For a camera designed to replace traditional Movement cameraThis is amazing.
I have been using and reviewing 360 cameras since I hit the market for the first time in more than a decade. OSMO 360 determines many boxes for a “interesting new camera”. It is lightweight, it appears to be a decent size, and it has a large photo sensor for better lighting. Video, photos and frames move the needle up compared to previous generations. In my experience with DJI motion cameras, the company usually does a good job with image quality in a variety of environments, better in some cases of GoPro or Insta360.
So a colored is interested … except for one case. It is not available through the official DJI channels in the United States, and DJI does not have an estimated date when OSMO 360 is at all available. When I asked DJI to clarify, they answered: “We had to control our market strategy as local circumstances and the industry environment has evolved. We have no timetable about when or if this will be available, but we will keep you post if there are any updates.”
DJI has prices for us, at least now. OSMO 360 will theory will be $ 550 for standard account, which comes with a rubber -lens display, or $ 700 for Adventure, which includes a personal stick, a transfer mountain, and some other accessories. This puts it in the same range as X5 and Qooocam 3 Ultra.
