Booking.com confirms that hackers gained access to customer data

Booking.com confirmed on Monday that hackers may have accessed customers’ personal data, including names, email addresses, physical addresses, phone numbers and reservation details. The global travel and hotel booking giant notified customers last week of the breach, according to multiple online posts.

“We are writing to inform you that unauthorized third parties may have accessed certain reservation information associated with your reservation,” read the notice to customers, according to: One user shared on Reddit. Several other Reddit users who responded to the post said they received the same notification. The letter from the company included the above types of data breaches, as well as “anything you may have shared with the property.”

The user who posted the notice on Reddit told TechCrunch that he received a phishing message via WhatsApp two weeks ago that included “reservation details and personal information.” This suggests that hackers are taking advantage of stolen information to target Booking.com customers.

Courtney Camp, a spokeswoman for Booking.com, told TechCrunch that the company “observed some suspicious activity involving unauthorized third parties being able to access some of our guests’ reservation information. Upon discovering the activity, we took action to contain the issue. We have updated the PIN for these reservations and notified our guests.”

A spokesperson declined to answer TechCrunch’s specific questions, including how many customers were affected by this incident and then notified.

Company The guard said “Financial information was not accessed.”

In 2024, TechCrunch reported Hackers have infected computers at several hotels with consumer-grade spyware or stalkerware. In one case, the victim was logged into his Booking.com administration portal when the PcTattleTale stalking software took a screenshot of his screen.
