Bluesky says it plans to make the app feel more “live” this year as part of ongoing efforts to build a competent competitor to Elon Musk’s X platform. Advertisement Bluesky’s 2026 development roadmaphead of product Alex Benzer said the platform works to make feeds more interactive and timely during live events, along with sparking improvements in posting and following up on suggestions.
“We’re exploring new features and interactions within feeds that make it feel less like just scrolling through posts and more like having a good time,” Binzer said. “We’re also working on making the app feel more ‘live’ overall. We’re taking an experimental approach, so I don’t want to overpromise on the details, but I expect to see us continue to explore real-time and event-focused features this year.”
The announcement also highlights improvements to core features to be made, such as adding support for drafts and longer videos, faster loading of videos, and better suggestions on “who to follow.” Bluesky doesn’t explicitly say it will address these issues this year, but the implication is there, as it admits that “the fundamentals have to be solid” to ensure users stick with the platform. A dedicated team is also being formed to manage Bluesky’s Discover feed, and topic tags are being explored to make it easier for users to find relevant posts and interests.
“We need more logic these days,” Binzer said. “We miss having fun on the Internet.” “Bluesky is one of the few public networks where you can do both without feeling like you’re trapped in an exploitative billionaire’s propaganda machine.”
