On Wednesday, I launched a new audiobook Immersive reading feature. This can help readers focus on their audiobooks by allowing them to read the eBook version. While listening to an audiobook in the Audible app, users can tap the Read and Listen button above their book cover image to see the text version of what they’re listening to. While audio is playing, text is highlighted simultaneously.
The option to read and listen at the same time can help improve reading comprehension for readers who struggle to stay focused on their books. It may also be useful for people learning a new language, as Audible says the feature will support hundreds of thousands of books at launch, including books in German, Spanish, Italian, and French, in addition to English.
Blended Reading is now rolling out to users in the US, “with the UK, Australia and Germany to follow in the coming months.” Users must own both the audiobook and eBook versions to use this feature.
