Atari is reviving Intellivision, one of its biggest competitors from the 1980s

Atari has announced Another revival of the retro consolebut this time the devices are being launched from an old competitor.

Atari and Plaion, a company that develops, publishes, and distributes games, have collaborated on the game’s development New Intellivision Sprint It blends 80s console aesthetics with modern gaming conveniences. It’s a new experience for Mattel’s Intellivision, which was initially head-to-head with Mattel’s Intellivision Atari 2600 When it was released in 1979.

The Sprint looks a lot like the original Intellivision with a gold and black case and a wood panel on the front, but there are far fewer cables. It connects to the TV using a single HDMI cable, and although it still includes two controllers that feature dials and number pads instead of joysticks, they are wireless and charge when plugged into the console.

Sprint has Intellivision’s original number pad overlays, but with new designs and updated artwork to make it easier to know which buttons you need to press to play different games. It comes with 45 built-in titles, including classics like Boulder Dash and AstrosmashAs well as a host of sports games that helped popularize the original version of the console. It lacks cartridge support, but there are USB-A ports that can be used to play additional titles or to connect original Intellivision controllers to an adapter.

It’s available for pre-order starting today for $149.99 and is expected to ship on December 5, 2025.
