Xreal has a big CES. Announced its new 1S AR glasses Switch 2-New base is ready This is also a battery – both are already available for purchase. We’re not done with the announcements yet, as they have given us a sneak peek at an upcoming partnership with Asus that will produce a new range of ROG AR glasses designed specifically for gamers.
In the only photo shared with her EdgeROG Xreal R1 gaming glasses look like cyberpunk pilots. There’s an LED strip on the stem to indicate… something. Maybe battery life, or something that couldn’t be measured before, like lightness. Either way, the legs appear to be a bit thicker than those of the 1S, and whatever tech the companies cram inside may be necessary to allow for its titular screen feature: a 240Hz refresh rate. These appear to be the first to double the natural 120Hz refresh rate common in augmented reality glasses today.
These glasses have micro-OLED panels that run at 1080p resolution, and will connect to gadgets using a USB-C cable. This set of glasses includes the ROG Control Dock, which features two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, making it useful for both PC and console gamers (Xreal’s Neo has only USB-C, while Viture’s competing Pro Mobile Dock has HDMI and USB-C, but not DisplayPort). This Asus dock will let you switch between video sources with a single button.
Xreal boasts a 57-degree field of view for this model, which is the highest you can get in most AR headsets right now (and matches the company’s $649 One Pro offering). It claims it can cover 95 percent of the viewable area with a massive 171-inch screen placed the equivalent of 4 meters in front of you. Like other recent Xreal models, the ROG Xreal R1 has three degrees of freedom, allowing you to virtually lock the screen in place or let it follow your head movements.
ROG Xreal R1 will be launched in the first half of this year. The company has not shared the price yet.
