With Apple Second generation AirTags Now it’s widely available, we’re already seeing stock of the first-generation model drop. Case in point? Amazon AirTag no longer sells a single AirTag, and it’s not clear when — or if — the retailer will restock the first-generation model. Fortunately, you can still get four sets of first-generation location trackers for around $64 ($35 off) at Amazon, Walmartand Best buy For Presidents’ Day, it’s $2 less than the best package price yet. If you only want one, you can also purchase one tracker from Walmart For $17 ($12 off).
If you’re an iPhone owner, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another tracker that’s as accurate or useful as Apple’s AirTag. That’s because, like the second-generation model, the original can tap into Apple’s extensive Find My network and take advantage of ultra-wideband (UWB) technology. As a result, all you have to do is open the Find My app on your phone and follow the arrows, sounds or vibrations that appear on the screen, which will guide you to the exact location of your item, even if it is placed between the seats of your car. This is the level of accuracy that many competing trackers have, Especially tilesloss.
In addition to the software perks mentioned above, Apple’s easy-to-use location trackers are built to last. The battery can last up to a year, and when it runs out, you just need to replace it with a standard CR2032 cell instead of replacing the entire tracker. Each AirTag also carries an IP67 rating, which means it can withstand dust and a bit of rain.
There are some features you’ll miss out on if you opt for the last-generation AirTag instead of the newer model, including an upgraded UWB chip that allows for more accurate location tracking. The second-generation version can also help you track items further away, and the speaker is 50 percent louder. But if you want to save some cash, the original is still one of the best trackers on the market and definitely worth picking up while you still can.
