Apple updates the rules of the European Union App Store by adding more complicated fees

Apple on Thursday Declare A series of updates for its developer policies to comply with the European Union’s digital market law (DMA). The news, which was expected, arrived at the appropriate time to fulfill the deadline on June 26, after which the iPhone manufacturer risks new fines. The changes both include how the application developers can communicate with their customers and Apple fees.

The European Union organizers were earlier Apple has been fined 500 million euros To not comply with DMA and they threatened to impose more penalties, forcing Apple’s hand.

Regarding the new Apple “anti -leadership” rules, which dictate customer communications, European Union Applicants will now be able to link with alternative ways to pay the costs of subscriptions and other purchases inside the application outside the application store via any channel. This means that they can share this link on the website, an alternative application market, within another application, and more. Apple said that these links can also be accessed outside the application or inside the application using a web display or an original experience, and they should not use the warning screens or text that Apple requires previously.

In addition, instead of dropping basic technology fees (CTF), Apple provided a more complex fee structure.

There are now initial acquisition fees (2 %) and store service fees. The latter is either 13 % or 5 %, depending on the level chosen by the developer. (Small business program members pay 10 %). Level 1 developers can access a limited set of application store services, including application reviews, manual updates and fat control measures. Level 2 provides access to Marketing tools, automatic updates, regulation and customization features, application visions, and more.

Next, for applications that want to link with alternative payment methods by adding the Extrape Link Entertainment (EU), there is a basic technology committee (CTC). This will eventually replace basic technology fees (CTF).

Before today, the developers prompted the basic technology fees amounting to 0.50 euros per application to install the application after the application has reached a million downloads. This will continue for developers on the conditions of the European Union alternative business.

For developers with standard conditions in the European Union, CTC – 5 % committee – will be applied instead. The developers who are currently pushing old CTF will move to the new rules by January 1, 2026.

“CTC reflects the value of Apple to developers through continuous investments in tools, technologies and services that enable them to create innovative applications with users,” Apple said in a statement.

The CEO of Epic Games Tim Sweeyy, who raised his Apple and won the right to use alternative payments without commission in the United States, The news reaction was to x, Describe it more as a malicious compliance of Apple.

He said: “The malicious compliance scheme in the new digital markets of Apple is starkly illegal in both Europe and the United States and makes fun of fair competition in digital markets. Edes with competing payments are not only subject, but taxes are imposed on this commercially in the application store.”
