In fact, the Apple-owned streaming device has some of the best TV shows you’ve probably never seen before. This goes double when talking about science fiction. Apart from the premium series to cutThere are a large number of worthwhile titles that you may not have heard of before. Simply put: there is more content out there Apple’s streaming service What happens at Lumon Industries.
When discussing the Apple TV, it’s easy to overlook the streaming device’s vast library. After all, the devices share the same name as their streaming platform. Not to mention the fact that Apple has relied heavily on a self-discovery model rather than investing in marketing for its offerings. Word of mouth can be powerful, but sometimes you need a curated guide like this to point you in the right direction.
You’re here for all things science fiction. This means you’ll probably want to build an epic world alongside engaging performances and boundary-pushing storytelling. TV shows of the type found in the Apple TV content library do all of that. Shows like For All Mankind, Murderbot, and Dark Matter immediately come to mind. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Vince Gilligan’s new series, Pluribus, which is very good. Heck, you can always rewatch Severance while you’re at it.

Vince Gilligan’s new series is a lot more X-Files than Breaking Bad, and that’s a good thing. The series revolves around a woman named Carol (Rhea Seehorn), who finds herself trapped in the middle of a global pandemic of unbridled happiness. It’s Invasion of the Body Snatchers, but it takes on a completely different take on the idea of an alien invasion. Smart writing and Seehorn’s Emmy-worthy performance make this show one of my favorite shows of the year.
Invasion is an epic sci-fi drama centered around an alien invasion. The detail that makes this series different is its international scope. Now in its third season, the show travels the world to present a variety of perspectives on the global threat. The series takes place in real time, which adds a sense of urgency to the mix.
The adaptation of Martha Wells’ best-selling book series, Murderbot Diaries, has already carved out a unique niche in Apple TV Plus’ sci-fi library. Starring Alexander Skarsgard (who gives everything he’s into) as the killer robot in question, the show follows the exploits of a security robot who protects his human clients while secretly watching hours and hours of television. If you want action, comedy, and sci-fi, Murderbot offers all three.
All episodes of Dr. Brain six is by Kim Jee-woon (director of I Saw the Devil), which pretty much tells you that this show is going to be a dark and twisted ride. The series revolves around a brain scientist named Seon Koh, who finds a way to hack into the memories of dead people. This is certainly a medical breakthrough, but Siwon is more focused on using this experimental technique to solve the mystery behind a family tragedy.
Rashida Jones plays Susie in Sunny, a series that Apple TV Plus describes as a dark comedy. After Susie’s husband and child disappear under mysterious circumstances, she is given a robot to help her grieve. As the show begins, Susie begins to learn her husband’s secrets, which leads the show to take a dark, dramatic turn. Sunny is presented in a sleek, near-future lens, and looks very much like a black mirror, which is a good thing.
If Ted Lasso paved the way for quirky comedies on the platform, Severance should be the title that solidifies Apple TV Plus as a streaming device dedicated to high-concept genre programming. The series revolves around Mark (Adam Scott), who works at Lumon Industries, a biotech company that has a unique (albeit terrifying) system for maintaining work-life balance for its employees. Ben Stiller executive produces and directs most of the first season’s episodes, proving once again that he’s a talent behind the camera.
Hello tomorrow! The film is set in a retro-future where door-to-door salespeople sell real estate on the moon. World-building is one of the biggest draws of the series, which unfortunately did not get a renewal for a second season. Billy Crudup, Alison Pill, Dawshane Williams, Hank Azaria, and Susan Hayward make up the strong cast of the series.
What would life be like if the space race never stopped? This is the big question that all human beings answer. The acclaimed sci-fi drama is set in an alternate reality where America and the Soviets vie for dominance of outer space. Thanks to the always creative vision of series creator Ronald D. Moore and the committed performances of its epic cast, this may be the best sci-fi series not to watch.
What if we did things differently? We have all asked ourselves this question at least once throughout our lives. That question comes to life in Dark Matter, a twisty, high-concept series based on the book by Blake Crouch. The series stars Joel Edgerton as Jason, a college professor who is subjected to a strange attack that changes his life and his reality. Jennifer Connelly, Jimmi Simpson and Alice Braga star alongside him in a show that will keep you guessing until the end of the season.
The world of Godzilla finally comes to television in this Apple TV series. Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters seeks to uncover the organization’s secrets as they come into contact with the monsters that destroyed San Francisco. Kurt Russell plays his first role in a TV series in nearly five decades. Here, he and his son Wyatt play army officer Lee Shu from the 1950s to the present day. The monsters and Russell’s star power alone are reasons enough to tune in.
Samuel L. walks away. Jackson transformed the superhero genre to bring themes of age and dementia to the forefront. Here, he plays Ptolemy Gray, an elderly man with Alzheimer’s disease. Thanks to the support of an orphaned teenager and the progressive research of an exceptional doctor, Ptolemy is able to regain his intelligence to end his life while also searching for answers to his nephew’s sudden death.
Using Hugh Howey’s trilogy of books as inspiration, Cielo explores a dystopian future world where the survivors of humanity live in an underground structure. Diverse class dramas permeate the underground city. Population control, a murder mystery, and a potentially deadly outside world bring the series to life. Rebecca Ferguson, Common and Tim Robbins lead the cast.
Apple TV has done the unthinkable by adapting Isaac Asimov’s epic sci-fi book series. But the streamer was pulled. Jared Harris plays Harry Seldon, a mathematics professor exiled for predicting the fall of the Galactic Empire. Lee Pace gives a great performance as Brother Day. The space drama follows Seldon and his followers as they fight to save humanity.
Jason Momoa shows off his acting skills in the movie See. Created by Peaky Blinders mastermind Steven Knight, the show explores a dystopian future where humanity has lost the ability to see. Losing sight does not slow down people’s ability to fight, and it is certainly exciting to see blind warriors using weapons in war. Momoa’s charisma and passion shine through, making the show enjoyable, even if it’s a hard-to-believe concept.
Mark Protosevich, the writer responsible for films like Thor, I Am Legend, and The Cell, has created Sugar – a series that wears his love of film noir on its sleeve. Visually, sugar is fun. Add Colin Farrell’s sympathetic and suave private investigator to the mix, and you have a stylish murder mystery that’s patient and compassionate. An unexpected twist turns the show on its head later in the series, turning the story into something else entirely.
