Houston, we have some production. Apple announced on Tuesday They’ll make hers Mac mini Desktop PC in the U.S. for the first time, relocating some manufacturing from its Asian factories, and will also increase AI server production at its existing Houston facility.
The California-based tech giant also said it will open the Advanced Manufacturing Center, a 20,000-square-foot facility where students and employees of suppliers and companies will receive hands-on training in manufacturing Apple products, in the same city.
Apple said in its statement that the production of the new Mac Mini and the increased production of artificial intelligence servers will create thousands of job opportunities.
The Mac Mini will be manufactured in a 220,000-square-foot facility in north Houston. The other main building on that site is where Apple makes its AI servers. A new advanced manufacturing center will also be built at that location. These buildings are owned by Foxconn, the Chinese manufacturing giant with whom Apple first collaborated in 2000 to produce the iMac.
Apple began producing advanced AI servers in Houston in 2025 for the first time.
Subih Khan, Apple’s chief operating officer, said that there will still be production of Mac Mini devices in Asia after the Houston factory is operational, according to what was reported by the British newspaper “Daily Mail”. Wall Street Journal report.
By starting production of the Mac Mini in the United States, Apple is strengthening its pledge to invest $600 billion in the United States over four years. This promise, made last August, was a response to pressure from President Donald Trump’s administration to increase manufacturing in the United States and avoid Trump’s tariffs.
Apple also said it sources more than 20 billion chips from 24 U.S. manufacturers, and that by the end of 2026, every new iPhone and Apple Watch will have a glass cover made at Corning’s facility in Harrodsburg, Kentucky.
CEO Tim Cook said his company is “deeply committed to the future of American manufacturing,” and production of the Mac Mini represents one step toward that commitment.
The Mac Mini, which first went on sale in 2005 – CNET has been around since the beginning – It is the cheapest of Apple’s desktop computers ($599 at Apple Store). It’s known as BYODKM, an acronym coined by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, which stands for “Bring Your Own Display, Keyboard, Mouse.” In other words, the Mac Mini — which is just 5 inches tall and 5 inches wide — comes without those peripherals, making it cheaper for those who already have them.
“The Mini can fit in your hand and be everything from an everyday home office computer to a full-fledged professional content creation machine.” CNET’s Joshua Goldman wrote in his review Latest model year 2024.
Apple’s 20,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing center is scheduled to open its doors in Houston later in 2026.
Goldman also said the Mac Mini is a “perfect pairing” with Apple Intelligence, the company’s artificial intelligence system that integrates with iPhones, iPads and Macs.
Market research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners estimates that the Mini represents less than 5% of global Mac sales, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Apple will also increase production of its AI servers. The company said manufacturing is progressing ahead of schedule, months after production began in October. The servers are used in Apple data centers across the United States.
