Apple has removed the Night Mode photo feature from the iPhone 17 Pro

iPhone 17 Pro users have fewer ways to take photos in low-light conditions than those using older iPhone models. Specifically, the option to select Night Mode when taking portrait mode shots — which gives the Camera app an artistic depth-of-field effect — is not supported on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, per Support guide On Apple’s website.

iPhone 17 Pro users On Reddit I mentioned That feature wasn’t there last month. My colleague Tom Warren also says Night mode is missing from Portrait mode on his iPhone 17 Pro — something he thought “was a bug.” Apple did not explain why it removed the feature from its latest Pro models, or whether it will be added in the future.

We’ve reached out to Apple for comment.

iPhone 17 Pro users can still take photos and videos in Night mode via other camera modes. However, portrait mode users who enjoy sharper focus on the subject and blurred background effects will miss out, making low-light photography feel like a low-key experience on Apple’s current flagship phone.
