“The Ring camera identifies people who are present based on what they are wearing, holding, or their actions,” an Amazon spokesperson said. In an advertisement. “Alexa uses this visual context, any information the visitor shares, and the instructions they are given.”
You can customize what your greeting messages say, so your doorbell can manage interactions for you. Using Ring Video description, the camera can detect what a visitor is wearing, such as a delivery outfit, and guide the conversation accordingly.
One example Amazon provided was asking delivery drivers to leave packages out of sight or near the back door, rather than leaving them on the front porch. Another example given by the company is to politely let the lawyers know you are not interested.
Or, if a friend stops by while you’re busy, the doorbell can let them know you’re unavailable and ask them if they’d like to leave a message. Greetings are also prepared for follow-up questions, such as when you will be available to talk or if the delivery driver will need an access code to enter the backyard.
The ad also notes that the Greetings app can manage interactions with home visitors without revealing whether you’re home or not. Welcome Doorbell interactions are separate from other smart home controls.
The new feature is available for Ring Wired Doorbell Pro (3rd generation) and Ring Wired Doorbell Plus (2nd generation) with the Ring Premium plan and video descriptions enabled. You’ll need to purchase a Ring subscription before you can set up a doorbell to communicate with visitors at your front door.
