“Alexa+ is much more capable than original Alexa, so we’re working to make it available to as many customers as possible,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “We have informed customers of the upcoming update, including how to revert to the original version.”
Amazon says it only upgrades Prime members with supported devices to Alexa + early access In this new batch. Alexa+ is currently free, and Prime members will continue to get it for free when it launches in the first full version, but it will cost $20 per month once it officially launches for non-Prime members. The list of supported devices is also generous, including first generations of Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, Echo Spot, and even Echo Plus. There’s a long list of compatible Fire TV and Fire Tablet devices too, so depending on how many Amazon-enabled devices you have and if you’re a Prime member, you could see Alexa+ in a few places.

If you don’t want to upgrade or don’t like the experience, it’s easy to come back. Simply tell your Alexa device, “Alexa, exit Alexa Plus,” and it will revert back to the original Alexa voice and experience. This works on supported Echo devices. You’ll stop seeing a chatbot-like conversation style, and the assistant’s responses will be less conversational.
Other than that, you won’t really lose your basic abilities. Personally, I didn’t find that I needed to change the way questions were asked between the two versions of the voice assistant. The on-screen and audio experience is back to something very similar (if not updated a bit, though I’m using the latest version). Echo display 11 To test it) to what I remember Alexa looked like before I switched to Alexa+. Amazon will also warn you that some features in the Alexa app will have to change if you return to the old experience, but it doesn’t specify what those features are, nor does it make these settings easy to find.
If you’re not a Prime member and don’t get the automatic push to Alexa+, you should still be able to easily toggle it in the app, or even on your device by asking to switch to Alexa+. There is no longer a registration page like there used to be, since there is no waiting list. To find details about your access to Alexa+ and manage controls, look under Memberships & Subscriptions in your Amazon account.
Even if you ask to go back to the old Alexa, right? truly Old Alexa? While it’s the same sound, Feminine 2 (or “Relaxed”), our team – side by side Other users on Reddit-I noticed some of the tone of the voice changed, making it sound different from the way it used to. You can also use the Feminine 2 while on Alexa+, so the audio itself will likely be updated to keep up with the more conversational style that Alexa+ promises.
Some people also dislike the new default voice, Feminine 1, which the Alexa app describes as “upbeat,” but… Others call it the “teenage girl” voice. (Or as my editor, a parent of a teen, calls it, the “rude teen” voice). The new Alexa sounds younger, and has a cadence that sounds almost sarcastic. In total, Alexa+ offers four female voices and four male voices, each described in the app using a single adjective such as “Inviting” or “Warm.”
