Airbnb is testing a “kitchen stocking” service that allows guests to place Instacart orders before their stay

Airbnb is piloting a service with Instacart that will allow guests to order groceries directly through the Airbnb app before and during their stay, the company confirmed to TechCrunch on Wednesday.

“We regularly test product updates, categories, and new initiatives, in order to provide the best possible experience for our community,” an Airbnb spokesperson said in an email. “As part of that, and following the launch of Airbnb services earlier this year, we will be piloting grocery using Instacart in select markets across the US starting in January.”

The new kitchen storage service will be available to select hosts with eligible listings in Phoenix, Orlando, and Los Angeles, according to the help page on Airbnb website.

The news was first published by Bloomberg.

If hosts receive their guests’ pre-orders and put them away before check-in, they’ll get $25, according to the help page. They will also receive a $100 bonus for their first completed order. Guests will be able to place orders on Instacart from the Airbnb app up to three weeks in advance of their stay.

“By bringing Instacart-powered groceries directly to the Airbnb app, we’re making it easier for guests to stock their kitchens and feel at home from day one,” an Instacart spokesperson said in an email. “We are excited to partner with Airbnb on this pilot program and put our extensive network of retailers and leading technology at the service of their guests.”

The new partnership with Instacart represents the latest addition to… Airbnb Services Which launched in May and allows guests to book services and experiences, such as getting a massage, haircut or a chef-prepared meal. While these offers can be added to your stay, they can also be booked independently.

The launch of the services has put Airbnb in direct competition with other travel companies such as Tripadvisor, Booking.com, Viator and GetYourGuide.

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the services will help the company add $1 billion or more in revenue annually.
